Finding Stillness in Change: Feng Shui and the Four Transformations of 2027

The other day, I was sitting by the sea, watching a buoy in the distance. I found myself watching it for quite a while. The sea was always moving and so was the buoy. It rose and fell with the water, drifting back and forth. Sometimes it moved quite a bit; other times, it seemed to settle for a while.

Looking at the sea, I realised that what appeared to be “stillness” on the surface didn’t mean nothing was happening underneath. I couldn’t see the currents below, yet I could see their effects through the buoy. It wasn’t telling me exactly what was happening beneath the water. It was simply showing me that something was moving and changing.

And that got me thinking. Perhaps “stillness” isn’t about having no movement at all. Perhaps it is about staying composed while things continue to change, without feeling that we have to react to everything immediately.

Feng Shui, in a way, is much the same. The “buoys” in a space are the things we can observe. As people, circumstances, time and the environment change, different things may begin to show up in the space around us.

When we begin to “see” what is happening, we may start to “understand” things we didn’t notice before. With that understanding comes “discernment”: recognising what matters, what is worth keeping and what we may need to let go of. Only then can we begin to see what may need to be “adjusted” in our space.

Looking at the Four Transformations (Si Hua) through this lens, perhaps “Hua Ji” draws our attention to a particular area of life. “Hua Ke” gives us a chance to pause, look at things from another perspective and gain a clearer sense of what is happening.

With that clarity, we may begin to recognise “Hua Quan” in the choices we make: what we want to pursue, what we are ready to take responsibility for and what we may need to let go of. As we work through these choices, “Hua Lu” invites us to see what is already available to us and what we can nurture, allowing possibilities to grow and take shape.

The Four Transformations are not separate from one another. They reflect different aspects of our experience, each connected to the others, with their expressions taking shape according to the circumstances.

Feng Shui is much the same. Our space does not make choices for us, yet it does shape how we feel and function within it. By looking at how the space works for us, we can see what may need attention and make adjustments to better support us.

In the end, it is not only about what we place in our space, but also what we choose to make part of our lives.

Over time, our choices shape who we become.

Yet knowing what to adjust also means knowing that not every change needs an immediate response and not every part of a space needs to be strengthened at the same time. The sea keeps moving and the buoy continues to move with the current. Perhaps “stillness” is about recognising when to act and when to wait, even while everything around us continues to move.

What needs attention may lie in our surroundings or in how we respond to what is happening. The same currents can affect each person differently. Some may be navigating opportunities and building on what they already have. Others may be facing responsibilities and choices. Some may need to make their expertise and value more visible, while others may need to pay closer attention to communication, doubts and emotions.

With this in mind, Feng Shui is not about reacting to every change with immediate adjustments. It begins with taking a closer look at what the “buoy” in front of us is showing us:

What am I really facing right now? And what deserves my attention?

The Four Transformations help us understand the different changes that may be unfolding. You can begin with Master Zhang Sheng Shu’s 《2027 運勢|丁未年四化解析》 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jx1df9Iw9X8), then look at what is most relevant to your current situation and choose the corresponding area to focus on.

Rather than strengthening every sector, start with what needs support most.

South West Sector | Find Your Ground and Let What Matters Grow

In 2027, the key idea is “Stillness”. Doubt can disturb our sense of stability and make it harder to see what deserves our attention.

The South West Sector (202.6°–247.5°) helps to reduce the influence of doubt and find our ground. When we feel less caught up, we can look at the buoy more clearly. This makes it easier to recognise what is happening beneath the surface:

What is really happening now? What needs support and what can be left as it is?

With greater clarity and faith in ourselves, we can better recognise which wave of the Four Transformations to follow, what truly matters and what we want to keep in our lives.

In addition, with Tai Yin Hua Lu, impatience can cause us to miss opportunities that need time to grow. When we are too focused on getting results quickly, we may overlook what is already taking shape.

The South West Sector encourages us to slow down and ask ourselves:

What is worth giving time and space to grow?

Rather than rushing to grab every opportunity, we can take a step back, recognise what is already there and give it space to develop naturally.

Feng Shui Tuning: Keep this area tidy, organised and free from clutter. Add soft, warm elements such as gentle lighting or candles to create a more grounded & inviting atmosphere. Tuning this sector is about giving what is worthwhile the space to stay and grow, without rushing to hold on to everything.

True accumulation is not just about what comes into our lives, but also what is worth keeping once it arrives.

North West Sector | Recognise the Right Opportunities, Then Act

With Tian Tong Hua Quan, it is about recognising the right opportunity, taking responsibility for what is within our control and letting go of what no longer serves us.

The North West Sector (292.6°–337.5°) supports us in seeing these choices more clearly, so we can put our energy into what truly matters. Sometimes, we hold on to something because we see it as an opportunity, even though it may not be right for us.

Knowing the difference helps us put our energy where it matters and keep the choices in our own hands.

Feng Shui Tuning: Keep this area tidy, organised and free from clutter. Add elements such as white objects, circular shapes, clocks or items connected to your work and responsibilities. These can help to create a clearer, more organised space when you need to focus and make decisions. Tuning this sector is about seeing what is worth pursuing, taking responsibility for what matters and knowing when it is time to let go.

It’s not just about what “I want right now”, but about what I really want to keep in my life, once I look beyond my expectations and the reality in front of me.

Once I’m clear about what is worth pursuing, I can go for it.

South Sector | Express Yourself and Let Your Value Be Seen

With Tian Ji Hua Ke, having the ability is one thing; letting others see what we bring is another. It also matters whether we are in the right place for our value to be recognised.

The South Sector (157.6°–202.5°) encourages us to look at how we present ourselves and ask: What do I want others to see? Am I in the right place to be seen?

When we are in the right position and communicate what we bring in a way others can relate to, it becomes easier for our value to be recognised and for meaningful connections and opportunities to take shape.

Feng Shui Tuning: Keep this area tidy, organised and free from clutter. Green plants or pictures of green plants & trees can bring more life into this sector. You can also display things that reflect your expertise, experience, and achievements, such as photos from your work, your creations, certificates or pictures of people and communities you hope to connect with. Tuning this sector is about creating a space that reflects your strengths and helps you to express what you have to offer. It encourages you to look at what you bring to the table, who you want to reach and how you can express yourself in a way others can understand.

“Being seen” is not about having nothing to share. We all have our own stories to tell. What matters is how we share them so others can connect with our experiences, understand what makes us different and recognise the value we bring.

When people connect with our stories and understand what we bring, connections and opportunities have more room to grow.

North Sector | Pause Before Responding

With Ju Men Hua Ji, it is about paying attention to the doubts, emotions and misunderstandings that can arise through communication.

The North Sector (337.6°–22.5°) encourages us to slow down when conversations become difficult or our thoughts keep going in circles. Instead of reacting in the heat of the moment, we can pause and ask ourselves:

Where might misunderstandings arise? What still needs to be clarified?

Sometimes, taking a step back helps us to see things from another perspective. With a clearer mind, we can decide whether to speak, how to express ourselves or whether it is better to give ourselves a little more time.

Feng Shui Tuning: Keep this area tidy, organised and free from clutter. Add warm elements, such as a warm-toned lamp or candle, to make the space feel less tense and more comfortable, while leaving room to gather your thoughts. Tuning this sector is about creating a space where you can feel more at ease, think more clearly and have enough breathing space to respond to situations calmly and thoughtfully.

Sometimes, the best response is not an immediate one. Taking a step back helps us see things more clearly and decide whether to speak, what to say, and how to say it.

Toilet | Restore Stability by Setting Things Right

Whatever wave you are navigating this year, one area worth paying attention to is the toilet.

If your toilet falls within any of these sectors, take a look at its condition. Are there unpleasant smells, persistent dampness, poor ventilation, damaged fittings or issues you have grown so used to that you no longer notice them?

In Feng Shui, unpleasant odours are referred to as “Wei Sha”. When we look at it from everyday life, a toilet that is damp, poorly ventilated or has lingering smells can also affect how comfortable the space feels.

There is no need to worry simply because your toilet falls within one of these sectors. Pay attention to what needs attention. If everything is in good order, let the space function as it should for you.

Sometimes, adjusting a space is not about “adding something new”; it is more about setting things right first. Addressing existing issues helps the space become more comfortable and stable, creating better conditions to support what comes next.

When the timing is right, your next steps become clearer, and your space is ready to support you as you put what matters into action.
